Utah Psychological Association
VA Salt Lake City Health Care System/Psychology – Post Doc
Type of Site: Post Doc, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, APA Accredited
Program Description:
The Salt Lake City VA Healthcare System Psychology Postdoctoral Program in Clinical Psychology was granted initial APA Accreditation in 2012. The Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Program has two areas of emphasis: PTSD (PCT Team/Polytrauma/OEF, OIF, & OND Veterans) and Behavioral Health/Primary Care and Geriatrics.
The PTSD Track has offered two resident positions since 2008 and has a focus on PTSD, Polytrauma, and readjustment strains for OEF/OIF/OND veterans. Residents typically split their time in the PTSD Clinic and the Polytrauma Clinic where they learn various assessments and train in advanced interventions (PE, CPT, ACT, etc) for those with TBI histories as well as PTSD. The program aims to train the next generation of psychologists to work in VA healthcare.
The Behavioral Health/Primary Care (BH/PC) and Geriatric track was created in 2013 and provides three resident positions. Two of the residents will provide interprofessional primary care/behavioral health and one of the residents will provide interprofessional primary care/behavioral health to geriatric patients. The BH/PC fellowship will share many of the same supervisors, settings, and training experiences in which fellows will provide clinical care. Additional areas of emphasis include rural populations, program evaluation and development, provision of clinical supervision, and will also allow for the fellow to develop their own specific interests. All three residents will provide care across a range of settings which may include: health promotion and prevention, inpatient mental health consult, primary care, home-based primary care, and geriatric clinics.
